Whats in a Mid-Century Modern name? C Jere by Raymor

I found this piece at auction. I was very excited to find out it was in fact a  piece by C. Jeré

Whats in a Mid Century name is quite important, the history adding value and significance to the piece.

C Jere was not a person but a company name. Did you know?

Curtis Jere is a compound nom-de-plume of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels. The two founders combined pieces of their own names to create the C. Jeré signature.

The company was founded in 1963 by Fels and his brother-in-law Curtis (Kurt) Freiler.

Freiler was the production chief and Fels was head of design.

Prior to this the partners built a costume jewelry business, selling work under the names Renoir and Matisse. I had been fortunate enough to have pieces from both lines before and never knew they were by "C Jere."

In 1964 Jere sculptures were "distributed by Raymor, another name with a great reputation and strong following.

If you value your Mid-Mod collection, do your homework... Learn whats in their name!
