What Not to Sell: ANNE GEDDES

ANNE GEDDES BABY BUNNY in EASTER EGG properly vintage estate cleencolla
To be sure Anne Geddes was a genious.  Her photos of babies were clearly spectacular and Adorable with a capital "A"  Yet sadly the market for her cutesy creations is dead.  Maybe people have gotten tired of looking at beautiful babies,  maybe the economy is preventing them from even thinking about about babies.  I know its given me pause!
Anne Geddes anything used to be big money on ebay and a sure sell.  I had this
BABY BUNNY in EASTER EGG  listed for over 3 months.  It finally sold because I practically gave it away.
So there you have it folks... cute babies are not for selling.

Im in Love... with Pottery

That was hard to say,  I  find it hard to make the "love" statement.  Now that it is said I kind of feel better, like I have reassured myself.  So lets delve a little deeper into this love affair of mine.  Well, it began at the auction and Ladies and Gentlemen it was love at first sight if not the other.  Never in my life had i been enthralled with dinnerware and other fine ceramic.  Some might say I am too generous with my love but i give it willingly to; Lenox, Ironstone, Fiesta, Dansk, and all the pieces from Mottanedeh.  I know masses swooned over Mid Century Modern frankly,  I understand the appeal, but modern is just not me.  I like tried and true.  I love it classic, because time tested functionality serves to gain character.  Appealing indeed.

I lust after pottery, I buy it and flip it FAST!  Is like a drug to me,  to have it for a little while all to myself and then send it to its intended "home" repeating the cycle as often as i can.  Pray for me.

The pot in the picture is a Vintage MELITTA GERMANY Coffee Pot,  I knew when I saw it I had to have it.  Used it a couple of times and sold it this week for $15.  Cheap I know, but such is love.

So this is Christmas

properly vintaged
Can it be Christmas all year round?  Why of course it can Jimmy!  See christmas comes from the heart...  Umm Ok Enough of that.  This post is really just about making sales year round on Christmas type items.  I just made a decent sale on a Vintage Riddell Santa Christmas Mug.  Im pretty sure I could had done better had I held on to it till the holidays were like right on top of us,  but well folks space here is at a premium so I have to turn around merchandise as soon as possible.  Not only that but sales are so slow that I have to throw everything I have at them.  Here is to hoping, the economy gets better!

Monday Thrift Finds

cleencolla ebay
Oh, Wow!  It finally happened to me.  I had heard about this happening all over the thrift blogs.  However being a pessimist, well you know.
 "Behold Mates, I've struck GOLD"

My 1st stop on Saturday was a  humble one family yard sale.  It was just down the road for me so the drive was short.  First look there was not much there for resale.  However last week I had resolved to buy at least one token item at every single family sale I attend.   I rationalized that it is the polite thing to do.  Plus truth be told I feel sheepish when I look and don't buy.

There was a box full of watches that caught my eye,  I have a calling for watches.  I buy lots of them, some to gift, some to keep and some of course to sell.  I thought I saw a fine vintage watch there... then I looked again and the cheap vinyl band told me put it down.  The ugly band covered the back of the case and so I couldn't read any "Gold filled" markings,  which is what I thought the watch might be.

I ended up buying two watches and a vintage Etch n Sketch (for my boy).  Then I had a very pleasant conversation with the family.   As I was walking away,  the man there gifted me the watch I had put down, it was a lovely gesture.  Sunday I was getting my items ready for the shop.  I picked up the watch and thought again, "This is such a nice looking watch"  I had to peek in the back... there was nothing on the outside of the case.

But on the inside.....
OMG !

The watch is 14k GOLD.
Now for my moral dilemma...
Return the watch or sell and share the profit?

It was a good run, down memory lane.

etsy cleencolla
Sadly I have sold the last of my Vintage Lucite 1960s Toy Klackers Clackers or Ker-Knockers. Oh! How sweet it was.  More than a year ago I bought eight dead stock sets for $8.  First I tried selling them on ebay but they shot me down.  Something about them being dangerous... preposterous,  I got hit in the head plenty of times with them as a child and i am still here, and so are you.   It took me a long time to realize I could list them on etsy but when I did,  they kind of just flew off the shelf.  I averaged about $35 a set.  I am going to miss them. (sigh)

Theres No New in a Vintaged World !

cleencolla

My weeks sales were low,  hopefully some of you out there are doing better.  But this leads me to have to admit; Lately I find myself crossing unto that place of which we talk about in hush tones...

"the 21st Century"

I have been listing lots of modern items not of the Mid-Century variety, in order to meet my selling quotas. This TIGNANELLO Cross Body Purse, which I sold this week is one such item.

I'm walking fine lines here people!  I am officially providing  vintage kitsh to the hip, and giving middle of the road mundane to the masses.

Listings that begin NIB or NIP are quite sad to me.  They just dont get my my soul roaring.  They dont give me that anticipation rush to research and list.  However they do bring me a couple bucks and sometimes folks... Money has to be enough!

1960s Mad Men's "Kelly Bag"

Do you know what a "Kelly" Bag is, and why they are so popular NOW?

The title of my post kind of gives it away.  Yet to further clarify; the Kelly bag was named after Princess Grace Kelly (Gorgeous Creature),  the original bag was designed and produced by the Hermes Company.  Yes the very same of  "Birkin" fame,  if you follow that sort of thing.  You can read all about it here....

(History of the Kelly Bag)

This Classic Shape Purse is back in high demand because of a little unknown TV Series called, Mad Men.  The show airs Sunday nights on AMC, it has been running since 2007.  As a girl, I really care not for the story line, but my jaw drops at the fashion of it all.  No, really!  See for yourself here, I ran a google search for you...

On Saturday morning I got up bright and early.  I had decided the night before to do like the "PROS" do and make the Annual St Marks Catholic School Flea Market, on an early bird note.  I was salivating over this flea market because it involved church parishioners and parents of the kids.  These are not typically collectors or re-sellers so their stuff is sold pretty cheap, and with no note of how valuable stuff might be.

At the very first table I spotted her... The opus of Kelly Style Bags.  The one that tells the world, "Yes, I have arrived and my purse is glorious"  She was bright red with gold tone accents.  Styling and material date her to about 1964.  She was as close to pristine as a nearly fifty year old purse is going to be, and she was going to be mine!  I picked her up unassumingly, as you always should to keep the price low.  Gave her a good once over and asked for a price.   Here she is...

Isnt she a beauty?  She is near mint and clean as whistle inside.  I love Kelly Style Bags with passion that surpasses my finances, I have many.  Therefore she really cant stay with me, but to buy her was such a score!  Fret not I will find her a better home on ebay soon, SHE IS LISTED HERE...

Amazon Sale of the Day

As I briefly mentioned I sell books online.  Wait maybe I hadn't mentioned that,  Oh, Well!  now you know.  I sell books on half.com and Amazon.  Both sites have their charms.

Half.com is great for clearing out your college text books.  I had my share lying around, fifteen years of working on a degree will do that to a Chic.

 (my half.com site)

Amazon is amazing for selling Antique, Vintage,  and Out of Print Books.  Let me say that again,  Amazon is Amazing!

(my amazon store)

Today I sold this book on Amazon...

(Babes in Toy Land)

Yes that's right, Babes In Toy Land and why not?  Some kiddos have not read it yet.  This is the order information I received from Amazon.

Item: Babes in Toyland by Bluth, Toby
Condition: New
Condition note: perfect. suitable for gift giving
Quantity: 1
Order date: 03/26/2012
Buyer's price: $19.99

So how did I come about this book?  Not from my personal collection of rare books.  I actually bought this at auction.  Sometimes I randomly bid on book lots because nobody else in the auction house is putting their hand up.  Its not unusual for me to buy six books for $1-$3 this way.  Sometimes the books are winners, like this one turned out to be.  This is one of those books people remember from childhood and they want to read to their own kids.  Bless their hearts.

So there you have it, "Sell books its worth it!"
